Copyright and Takedown Requests

What we publish

The writing on SoftDL is ours. Reviews, guides, and the explanations that go with them are produced by the person who runs this site, and that text belongs to us. If you copy a paragraph and paste it somewhere else, that is not a summary, it is a copy. Please don’t do that. Quoting a sentence or two with a link back is fine and we won’t bother you about it.

If you hold the rights to something on a page here

You may find material you own on a specific URL. Maybe an image, maybe a chunk of text, maybe a screenshot that ended up in a guide. It happens, and it is usually a mistake rather than anything deliberate. Tell us and we will sort it out. Go to the contact page on this site and send your message there (we don’t list a separate takedown address, the contact page reaches the same person). Please include the exact URL, not just the page title, because titles repeat and URLs don’t.

What your notice needs to contain

Keep it simple but complete. We need:

Your name and a way to reply to you. The specific URL on softdl.org where the material sits. A description of the work you own that you believe is being used without permission. A short statement that you have the right to act for the owner (or that you are the owner). A statement that the information in your message is accurate to the best of your knowledge. And your signature, typed is acceptable.

If any of that is missing we may write back and ask, which slows everything down for both of us.

What happens next

We read every notice that arrives. A valid one gets acted on quickly. In most cases the page or the specific item is removed or replaced within a couple of working days. If we think the notice is mistaken or the use was permitted, we will say so and explain why rather than ignore you. Either way you get a reply from a person, not an automated receipt.
